Prior to installation, paint or stain should be applied to the surface on a dry, clean ornament. If necessary, lightly sand the surface to ensure a smooth finish.
For stain to be uniformly absorbed, start with a filler/sealer.
For a painted finish, start with a latex primer then apply one or more coats of alkyd or latex trim paint.
For a unique finish, such as 'wash', apply a base coat of paint or clear sealer, brush on the accent colour, and then wipe off. For a 'wash' finish using stain, just wipe off the stain before it sets.
Consider perhaps a faux finish, such as a marble effect to add your creative touch.
Ornament Finishing Tips:
Ornaments should be applied using finishing nails and glue. Select an adhesive appropriate to the application. Mounting hardware is provided for corbels.
Apply a light coat of glue to the back of the ornament, secure in place with finishing nails. Counter-sink finishing nails with a nail punch and touch up with paint or stain.
When applying to a finished surface, lightly rough up the area of application with sand paper to promote adhesion.
